VARIOUS PROCEDURES:

1. SHIROABHYANGA:
Anointing
the head with medicated oil. It also comes under murdha taila.
Procedure: Take Luke warm oil. Pour oil on the top of the head. Oil should be
spread all over the head using fingers. Apply forward, backward and circular
movements and gentle pressure all over the head. Wait for 10 – 15 mints. Wash
the head with Luke warm water.
Precaution: Soon after the shiroabhyaanga exposure to cold or hot should be
prevented.
Note:
Oil selection depends upon the constitution season, diseases or purpose.
Benefits:
Prevents shira shools, khalitya, paalithya, hair fall, strengthens shira and
kapala hair becomes black, long deep-rooted, sense organs functions properly,
skin becomes brightened produces sound sleep and happiness.
2. PADABHAYANGA:
Application of medicated oil on
the feet.
Procedure: Take luke warm oil. Start applying oil on
the feet simultaneously. Circular movements done in ankle joints.
Rub the heals and massage the soles thoroughly7. Massage and pull the
toes wait for 10 – 15 minutes and wash. Protect legs from stones hard
substances etc.
Benefits: Makes feet strong, promotes sleep and
vision loss of sensation, tiredness, stiffness, contractures and cracking of
feet, kharatwa, stadada, roukshiya, shrama are cured. Prevention from gridrasi,
cracking of foot, constriction of vessels and ligaments of feet are improved.
3. KARNAPOORANA:
Instilling medicated oil into ears.
Procedure: Take luke warm oil. Patient is made to lie in
left lateral position. 2 or 3 drops of oil are instilled into right ear. Wait
for 1 to 2 mints. Close the ear with cotton. Repeat the same procedure for
right ear. Wait for 5 to 10 mints.
Benefits: Relives karnashoola,
shira shoola, neck pain, ear diseases due to vitiated vata, manyasthamba,
hanugraha, hardness of hearing and bhadirya are prevented.

SHARIRABHYANGA:
Application of medicated oil to
whole body.
General Procedure:
POORVAKARMA:
Abhyanga should be adopted with
taila or ghrita by considering prakruti, rutu, satmya, dosha, desha and roga.
The person who massage should be calm, clean, fresh, free from
diseases. Person to be massaged should have desire food and drinks should be
selected.
PRADHANAKARMA
It should be performed in the
following order.
Shiroabhyanga. Padhaabhyanga.
Abhyanga for Arm and neck. Abhyanga for abdomen and chest. Abhyanga for
back. Head of patient should be facing
east direction. Pressure should be varied according to doshas and bala of
patient.
In vata prakruti and vataja disorders light gentle abhyanga is done
moderately in pittaja and prakruti, in case of kapha deep muscle massage is
done.
Slow and gentle around waist, little more pressure over face and neck,
more pressure around head, feet and limbs are performed.
Abhyanga is done in anulomagata
(in direction of hair) over limbs and circular movements over joints. It is
performed by following order
Sitting (Shiroabhyanga). Supine (Padhabhyanga), Left lateral, Prone,
Right lateral, Supine, Sitting.
Duration:
35 to 45 mints.
PASCHATKARMA:
Person is asked to wait for 15 to 20 mints. Prevention
of exposing to clod and hot.
Benefits: Jarahara, sramahara, vathahara, drustiprasadakara,
pushtikara, ayushyakara, swapnakara, twakdardhyakara, klesha sahatwa, abigata
sahatwa, kaphavata nirodhana, varnabalaprada.
