IN DAY TODAY LIFE
During this fast developing technological era people are motivated the
modern medical science and technology, but the traditional Ayurvedic science
has maintained its place in life which maintains health by its principles.
Ayurveda, the everlasting supreme science of medicine deals with all
aspects of human life since time immemorial. The foremost aim is to promote and
maintain health. In Ayurveda more importance is given to personal health which
when followed would definitely prevent many of today’s life style disorders.
Ayurveda explains many concepts under dincharya which has been
attributed not only as promoter of health but also taken as an Upakrama in
disease management. Among them abhayanga is one of the concept.
Abhyanga is an ancient practice which predates the Vedic period. Early
humans practiced life sustaining ways of manipulating the body to produce
strength, mobility, flexibility and memory. The ancients knew every movement in
the cosmos to be filled with universal abhayanga. This abhanga prevents old
age, nourishes skin and other deeper tissue, and balances the doshas enhances
well being and longevity. The leaves of trees are continuously massaged by
wind. The rocks and pebbles are rubbed by the streams. Like this abhayanga
procedure will tone up the human body.
Massage
is a process of rubbing or kneading a part of the body usually with the hand as
to stimulate circulation, making muscle
tone, strengthens the immune system, decreases depression, stimulates the nervous
system, prevents old age and increase longevity. In this way it preserves
health, prevents diseases and enhances the immunity.
Due to modernization people sleep less due
to mental and physical strain. Proportion of sneha has been reduced considerably
due to wrong food habits, exposure to sun and dust, strong chemical bathing
soaps, detergents, shampoos, leading to early wrinkles, graying of hair, dry
skin etc. hence keeping in mind the above concept this is an outlook of
abhyanga in day today life with special reference to massage.
